Overview of parking brake

1 Activating unit with control unit
2 Parking brake Bowden cables
3 Brake shoe expander
4 Handbrake shoes
5 Adjusting handbrake

Removing and installing/renewing all parking brake pads
Special tools required: 34 4 000

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear brake discs.
After completing repair work, adjust parking brake.
Note:
During replacement of the hand brake coverings, the following components must also be renewed:
- Brake shoe expander
- Adjusting screw
- Spring set

Check recoil springs and replace if necessary.

Remove brake shoes.

Note installation position of adjusting screws (1) and (2).
Coat threads of bushing (1) and screw (2) with grease,
refer to Service Operating Fluids.
Removing and installing/replacing both Bowden cables for parking brake
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove expander lock for parking braking shoes
- Lower rear axle carrier

Tightening torque 34 41 3AZ.
Take off case cover.

Continue releasing parking brake with emergency release tool until assembly position is reached (cable pulleys rest on outer housing walls (2)).

Press on tabs (2) with screwdriver in order to unlock Bowden cables.
Pull Bowden cable mountings out of parking brake housing a little.
Unhook Bowden cables from cable pulleys (3).
Remove Bowden cables from below.


Tabs of gasket (1) must engage in parking brake mounting tray.
End sleeves (2) of Bowden cables must engage in parking brake housing.

Ensure flush mounting between gasket and housing.
To facilitate installation, use silicone spray (refer to Parts Service) as antiseize agent.
Important!
After installing Bowden cables:
Adjust parking brake

Turn wheel until tapped hole is vertically at bottom.
Turn adjusting screw (1) with a screwdriver until it is no longer possible to turn the wheel.
Then unfasten the adjusting screw 8 notches.
Mechanically Emergency releasing parking brake Rolls-Royce Phantom

Turn crank counterclockwise.
With mechanical emergency release of actuating unit, max. torque at end stop 5 Nm.
